Be Your Own Girl Boss
With International Women’s Day just around the corner on March 8th, we’ve been thinking a lot about all of the amazing women from the past who have helped pave the way for women today. Not only have they made significant achievements for women’s rights, but they are also pioneers in female entrepreneurship. Let’s be honest…some of them are just bad-ass Girl Bosses. While reflecting on their journeys, as well as our own, we wanted to share with you some of the key factors that we find are essential to be your own Girl Boss.
HAVE A PASSION
I’m sure many of you out there have thought about entrepreneurship at one point or another! Well, we want you to know that you can do it! So, what’s the first step to becoming a Girl Boss? First you need to find something that you’re passionate about and go after it! As an entrepreneur, you often have to work very long hours. There are a million things you need to do in a day and very little time to do it in. In order to keep that fire alive and to keep you motivated, you need to be passionate about what you are doing. Being able to follow your passion is such an empowering experience because it allows you to work towards your own goals, rather than the goals of others.
BUILD YOUR COMMUNITY
Building a community that supports you is so important when you’re an entrepreneur. Find those people who will rally behind you and your brand and stick with them. Whether that be other fellow SheEOs (female CEOs), other businesses, or even your family and friends, you’ll find that you’ll be able to accomplish so much more when you feel like you have a whole community at your side. We are so grateful to have such an amazing community supporting Altilis Beauty. We would not be where we are today without them!
A DESIRE TO HELP OTHERS
Another really important driving force behind being a successful Girl Boss is to have an underlying desire to help others, like our CEO, Kenna Whitnell. From an early age, she realized that there are many women out there who suffer from acne prone and sensitive skin, just as she does. Her goal was to create a natural skincare product that could help women on their journey to healthy, clear skin, which she did with the Altilis Beauty InflorEssence skincare line. But she didn’t just stop there. All Altilis Beauty products are not only healthy for consumers, but are also eco-friendly and sustainable. In the end, helping others will not only give you purpose, but will also help you to create a brand that people feel passionate about supporting.
Find your inspiration, and remind yourself of it every day. Inspiration helps to remind you of your purpose, fuel creativity and will ultimately help you grow as an entrepreneur. We are always finding new inspiration from nature, from books, or from other women in our community. In fact, in honour of International Women’s Day, we would like to highlight one amazing woman in our community who is a continued source of inspiration for Altilis Beauty. Dr. Susan Murch is a professor at UBC Okanagan and was the first person to introduce breadfruit to our CEO, Kenna Whitnell. Dr. Murch is a leader in her industry, dedicated to her work, and has always encouraged Kenna to follow her dreams in business! We are so thankful for her support and encouragement because Altilis Beauty would not exist without her. Thank you!
Because we are just are so passionate about female empowerment and entrepreneurship, we would like spend this year highlighting several amazing Girl Bosses in our community. Keep an eye out for future posts!
Remember, find your passion and purpose and to have the courage to go after it! Happy International Women’s Day!
